  • Moderate crowd at first ODI

Hyderabad, Oct 14 (PTI) Moderate crowd turned up at the opening cricket one-dayer between India and England here with 28,151 people filling up the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium at Uppal today. The 39,600-capacity stadium saw 28,151 people watching the match, which is around 70 percent of total capacity. Blame it on India's recent disastrous tour of England or the overkill of cricket as Champions League Twenty20 was played right after that, the local officials couldn't remember when was the last time that there was such lack of enthusiasm of the cricket fans, especially at start of the match. "Obviously, the recent performances had its effect. Also it's festival time so it's difficult for people to shell out huge chunk of money for a match," one Hyderabad Cricket Association official said, avoiding the question whether it's being an overkill with so many tournaments back to back. The denomination of tickets started from Rs 300 and the highest available was Rs 10,000. There were also Rs 3,000 and Rs 4,000 tickets. The highest denomination stand remained empty with only good response coming from those who bought tickets for Rs 300, 400 and 1500. There was a lot of clamour for complimentary passes as the number increased during the latter half of the Indian innings.
